Hey there, connoisseurs of cosmic phenomena! 👋 Welcome to... August? 🤔 Time flies like a Spaghetti monster across the sky, doesn't it? We hope you're all enjoying a mega summer... or winter, if you happen to be our buddies from the southern hemisphere! 🌞❄️
Solar activity in June and July was as flat as a two-week-old beer forgotten on the balcony. 😴 Luckily, it gave us a chance to recharge our batteries before the new aurora season, which will soon kick off in the northern hemisphere. 🔋✨ Our Sun was clearly on the same wavelength as us, since it was so quiet you could hear cosmic dust falling. 🤫 Is this a sign that we've already passed the solar maximum? Or is it just the calm before the storm? 🧐 What do you think?

But today, oh boy! 😲 Our Sun sent us a little wake-up call in the form of an interesting flare from an even more interesting spot. Sunspot number 4168 fired off an M4.4 flare, which peaked at 15:53 UTC. 🔥⏰
This sunspot is interesting for two reasons: 1️⃣ it has a complicated Beta-Gamma-Delta magnetic configuration, which gives it the potential to produce some serious flares, kind of like when you mix gin with Tatra herbal tea 🍹, and 2️⃣ it's located right in the center of the solar disk facing Earth, which means that whatever it releases has a chance to hit our planet like grandpa hitting the coffee machine with the tip of his cane. 🎯🌍

Even though the flare was quite impulsive, to our surprise type II and IV radio emissions were observed, suggesting that the flare probably launched a coronal mass ejection. 📡 Exciting, since it's right in the center of the disk, right? 😎
Well... ehm... 😅 unfortunately the imagery from the LASCO coronagraph shows only a very weak coronal mass ejection (CME), which is heading almost entirely to the west of our planet, and we should see little to no impact of this plasma cloud on Earth. 💔 It's a bit of a shame, like missing the last night bus from Šírava to Michalovce.

Nevertheless, keep your eyes on sunspot 4168, since it remains a significant spot on the solar disk facing Earth. 👀 Could this group of sunspots indicate that we're entering a period of higher solar activity? 🤔 Something tells me yes, so keep an eye on ziara.sk so you don't miss anything! 🌈
If flares start showing up more often, we might have a chance to see a proper aurora even in Slovakia! 🇸🇰✨ And that would be worth it, wouldn't it? That would be a reason to break out even the last bottle of homemade booze from your mother-in-law! 🥃

I'll be keeping an eye on the situation, because I have a feeling the Sun has finished its morning coffee and is starting to get going! ☕💥 So stay tuned like the radio in your neighbor's car at 6:00 AM on a Saturday! 📻
